Sharon Romero is an artist whose background in art and psychology is revealed through
her works. A native of Los Angeles, Romero received her B.A. in psychology from
Pitzer College in Claremont and her M.F.A. from California Institute for the Arts. Romero
uses her love of paint and the physicality of material to transpose her passions and delights
into colorful and celebratory images, often reeking with excess and sugarcoated veneers.
Issues of desire, consumerism, artifice and fashion mask underlying psychological frameworks.
Each body of work builds on the next, but ever present is her interest in relationships; the
relationship of objects to each other, of the viewer to the art, and an on-going dialogue between abstract and figurative elements. French provencal landscapes and the elegance and beauty of Paris offer inspiration to Romero’s latest paintings.
Romero lives and works with her husband, artist Frank Romero in Los Angeles and in France. In Los Angeles she exhibits at the Li’l Frogtown Gallery. Recent exhibitions include Dissolution, a wall installation composed of shredded legal documents encrusted in paint and crystalina, and Frank & Sharon Romero: A Year in France.
